Old Business:
Bucks Game – The game selected for the club event is on February 25th. It's an afternoon game that starts at 4:30. Dave will arrange for tickets. Watch for the announcement in an upcoming issue of the Immer.
Holiday Party – The party will be held at the Astor on January 27th. Mary and Darcy are making the arrangements. There will be 3 dinner choices plus beer, wine and soft drinks will be included. A cash bar for other types of drinks will also be available. There will be a small Jazz band from the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. The charge to members and guests will be $20 per person. John, Mike, Mustafa and others volunteered to collect door prizes for the event. We will use the same method as last year to award the prizes. Possible guest speakers were discussed. Brad and John will check will some of the possible speakers.
Member Survey – Dave will complete the member survey and give to Clarence for inclusion in the next issue of the Immer. Dave will also collect and report the results of the survey.
Old Business:
Officer and Board Member Elections – The upcoming elections were discussed. Given that we electing officers for an odd numbered year the President and Secretary will be elected. A discussion of how many of the 5 board positions should be up for election. No one had a copy of the by laws with them so that decision was left to the nominating committee to decide. If you are interested in running for one of the offices (president or secretary) or a board member position contact John Morgan, Eric Ivarson or Greg Smith. (They make up the nominating committee.)
Fall Tour – Clarence reported on the fall tour. Six cars made the trip and everyone enjoyed themselves. Next year we will pick a date and stick to it instead of making a number of changes. We hope this will increase participation in the event.
New business
Chapter Forms – Mustafa passed out a number of forms received from National that must be filled out by chapters. The forms were distributed to those responsible for providing the information.
Event Participation – We discussed sharing links between the Badger Bimmer web site the Windy City web site so that our events and theirs would be open to members of both clubs. Dave will talk to the Windy City webmaster (Dave Holman) to see if they are interested.
Club Calendar – Mary volunteered to organize the calendar of club events for next year. The calendar will be present in each issue of the Immer and will also be posted on the web site. So far the events for 2001 we know about are the holiday party on 1/27, the winter car control clinic on 1/20 or 2/10, the Bucks game on 2/25, the car show on 5/20 and the Road America drivers school on 10/5 to 10/7.
Meeting Site – We are searching for a new site to hold the monthly meeting. Mini's informed us that their basement will no longer be available for our meetings. Mustafa will lead the effort to find a new site. We also discussed changing the day of the week when the meetings are held. We decided that holding the meetings on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday was acceptable. We also discussed moving the meeting from the second week of the month to some other week. Making these changes will give Mustafa more options for finding a meeting location.
Winter Car Control Clinic – Brain Brown introduced Dave Parps from the Wisconsin Autosport Group (WAG). Dave attended the meeting to discuss the format of the winter car control clinic. Dave has been ice racing and running auto crosses on frozen lakes for a number of years. They currently hold 4 ice auto crosses a year on Lake Sinnissippi in Hustisford. These events on held on Sundays in January and February. We plan to hold the car control clinic on the Saturday before one of the auto cross events. The primary date for the event is January 20 with a secondary date of February 10th. The secondary date would be used if conditions on the primary date are unacceptable. Dave and the WAG would provide the instructors for the event. Some of our instructors will also help.
This event would be run somewhat like the car control clinics we have held at MGA the last 2 summers. We would have exercises in the morning and in the afternoon we would set up an auto cross course on the lake. Dave has all of the contacts with the city of Hustisford, the person that plows the lake and a location (a bowling alley in town) for breakfast and lunch on the day of the event. There is a large parking lot at the public landing and a gentle slop at the landing so it should not be a problem getting cars onto the lake. The part of the lake used for the event freezes solid so there should be no worry about cars going through the ice.
We discussed who would provide insurance for the event, how many cars would be allowed and what the cost to members would be. We decided to use the insurance carrier normally used by our club for non-speed events. We decided that about 30 cars would be best and the cost per member would be around $40. We also decided to offer participation to members first and only open the event to non-members if we don't get 30 members to signup by a specific date. Safety will be the primary concern of the clinic. Helmets won't be required but will be suggested.
The plan would be to meet at the bowling alley in town for a light breakfast, go to the lake for 2 hours, return to the bowling alley for lunch and then go back to the lake for another 2 hours. We can then go back to the bowling alley at the end of the day to discuss how great we were and how much fun we had. Watch for the application and more information in the Immer.
Adjournment: Darcy adjourned the meeting at 9:45. The next meeting will be held on December 8th at a site to be determined.
